Robert Graham Center researchers have developed rigorous methodology for overcoming known problems in workforce data and existing health professions shortage area designations, especially in rural areas. Dr. Petterson will present findings from a 2007 analysis of primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants practicing in rural areas. He will focus on the importance of these findings for Virginia and related policy implications.

Hampton University has received HRSA funding to increase enrollment, retention and graduation in their baccalaureate nursing program by educating ethnic and racial minorities to work with unserved and underserved populations.
